Adult Literacy Grant Program Volunteer Review Committee

The Adult Literacy Grant Program Review Committee is composed of volunteers who apply for the responsibility of reviewing the Adult Literacy Grant Program proposals. They assist the Literacy Advisory Board in conducting a preliminary review of the adult literacy grant proposals which are then considered by the Literacy Advisory Board who recommend to the Secretary of State those projects deserving of funding.

Diversity Program Advisory Committee

Serves as an advisory group to the Illinois State Library on statewide issues related to cultural programs, racial minorities, and diversity issues. Discuss and recommend suggestions that will affect multicultural and minorities library program planning and information sharing in Illinois and ILLINET libraries. Assists the ISL in ensuring that equity in access to library and information services are available to all Illinoisans.

Illinois Center for the Book Advisory Committee

The purpose of the Illinois Center for the Book is to stimulate a public interest in books, reading, literacy and libraries while fostering an appreciation of Illinois' rich literary heritage.

Illinois Government Depository Council

Serves as an advisory body to the Illinois State Library on matters relating to federal and state government depository programs and services. To work with the State Library to provide access to Illinois government publications to all Illinois citizens.

Illinois Literacy Foundation

To promote literacy among the residents of the State of Illinois by supporting literacy programs and enhancing statewide literacy awareness; to make grants and gifts in aid and support of the goal; and to engage generally in other lawful endeavors consistent with the foregoing purposes. Illinois State Library Advisory Committee (ISLAC)

Library System Administrative Rules Review Group (on hiatus)

The charge of the Library System Administrative Rules Review Group is to review the draft revisions to the Illinois State Library administrative rules for library systems and provide input to the State Library on the draft language and the process for input from the library community.

Note:  The work of the Library System Administrative Rules Review Group is greatly appreciated. However, as we are going to focus on other issues, given how the state's budget deficit is impacting the library community, the Library System Administrative Rules Review Group will be inactive until further notice.

Library System Standards Committee (on hiatus)

The committee, representing the statewide library community, is reviewing and revising the service standards for the regional library systems. The committee members will seek broad-based input into the future key roles and responsibilities for library systems through a variety of methods throughout their work.

Note:  The work of the Library System Standards Committee is greatly appreciated. However, as we are going to focus on other issues, given how the state's budget deficit is impacting the library community, the Library System Standards Committee will be inactive until further notice.

Literacy Advisory Board

The Literacy Advisory Board is an eight member statutory body appointed by the Secretary of State to review the literacy grant proposals submitted to the Office of the Secretary of State and to recommend to the Secretary of State those deserving of funding. [Statutory Authority: 15 ILCS 320/7.2]

Live and Learn Library Construction Grant Review Committee

Statewide Cataloging Standards Committee

The Statewide Cataloging Standards Committee is responsible for developing a cataloging standards document that prescribes bibliographic practices and guidelines for cataloging training and certification throughout Illinois. They meet bi-monthly.

Talking Book and Braille Service (TBBS) Advisory Committee

The program in Illinois is administered by the Illinois Secretary of State. It is a division of the Illinois State Library. The Illinois network consists of the regional library in Springfield and four talking book centers. The Advisory Committee is made up of users of the program who offer advise. They meet four times per year, three times by conference call and once in person.
